- For star engagements in major cities of the Midwest and south, special trains would be scheduled for theatergoers from smaller towns in the region. For example, when Edwin Booth played Kansas City in 1887, residents of Fort Scott, Kansas, could take a train that would get them to the city in time for a dinner (included in the fare along with the theatre ticket) at the hotel across the street from the opera house. Also included was transportation back to the depot after the performance for the night train that arrived back in Fort Scott early in the morning.
